Ask Emma Horowitz, a sixth-grade English language arts teacher at Confluence Academy-South City.

Horowitz, a first-year teacher, created a profile on the crowd-funding site, GoFundMe.com. The purpose was to raise money for school supplies and other school-related activities. Within a month, she raised $750 from donors. The public relations team at GoFundMe.com noticed the profile, and because its purpose represents a trend among teachers across the country who use the site for similar reasons, Horowitz’s experience became a positive new story.
