10 Reminders to Help Parents Get Ready for a New School Year
Posted on 07/31/2014
logoThe calendar is quickly changing from July to August. The change means summer break is coming to an end for students and a new school year is about to begin.

Confluence Charter Schools will welcome students to the first day of school on Tuesday, August 12. From getting school supplies and school uniforms to learning where to get on the school bus, there is a lot for parents to do to get ready for a new school year.

10 Reminders for Parents

1. Missouri’s Sales Tax Holiday is August 1 through August 3, 2014. Certain back-to-school purchases, such as clothing, school supplies, computers and other items defined by the state are exempt from sale tax for the weekend.

2. Paper, pencils, crayons and what else? School supply lists are online. Confluence school supply lists and GCAA school supply list

3. What can my child wear to school? Uniform and dress code policies are online. School Dress Code

4. What’s for lunch? Menus for breakfast and lunch are posted each month. Breakfast and Lunch Menus

5. Read! Read! Read! Make sure your child reads every day. Reading takes skill and practice. One of the best and simplest steps to improve the reading ability for children is to provide sustained periods of time for children to read. Students in grades K-8 should read at least 20 minutes every day; students in grades 9-12 should read at least 30 minutes every day.

6. Where’s the bus stop? What time will the bus pick up my child? Bus stop details and bus schedules are mailed to parents from First Student. Please check with your child’s school if you have questions about bus transportation.

7. Parents of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students are required to be present at the bus pickup and drop off stops.

8. School hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for K-8 schools; school hours are 7:26 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Confluence Preparatory Academy; and school hours are 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Grand Center Arts Academy.

9. Holidays, professional development days and parent-teacher conferences are listed on the 2014-2015 Academic Calendar so you’ll know when your child does not have school. Academic Calendar 2014-2015

10. BE POSITIVE! Your encouragement and support makes a difference in your child’s education.
