The Confluence Academy-Old North cheerleading squad will learn the fundamentals of the sport at a clinic at Missouri Baptist University.

On Saturday, November 3, the nine-member squad of sixth, seventh and eighth grade girls will spend a day on campus with other cheerleading squads from the area. The squads will also perform during halftime of the MBU men’s basketball game.

Keely Sutton, sixth grade communication arts teacher and team lead, is the coach.

“This is going to be a fabulous and diverse learning experience for our young ladies,” said Sutton. She attended MBU and registered the squad for the clinic.

It is the second year that Old North has had a cheerleading team. The girls cheer for boys’ basketball. The academic expectations for the cheerleaders are a 2.5 or higher GPA, exemplary behavior and no excessive absences or tardies. They must attend all practices and games unless excused by the coach. Sutton said that she communicates with teachers each week to ensure the students are “meeting expectations both in and out of the classroom.”

The MBU men’s basketball game is at 4:00 p.m. against Evangel University. Tickets are $5.
